Thank You to the City of North Myrtle Beach!

Rigby Wilson (center), general manager WFXB Fox TV, member Red Cross Board of Directors and chair of the Government Relations Committee, presented a plaque of appreciation to Mayor Marilyn Hatley (second left) and the North Myrtle Beach City Council at the City Council meeting Monday, Aug. 6, 2012.

The Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross presented an award to the North Myrtle Beach City Council at the City Council meeting on Monday, Aug. 6th, to thank them for the City’s partnership in helping ensure critical Red Cross services.  The City of North Myrtle Beach recently supported the Red Cross with a financial donation.

Representing the local chapter was volunteer and member of the Hero’s Committee and Tiffany Circle Society, Anne Pearce Baroody and Major Gift Officer, Connie Ross-Karl.  Baroody also presented the Mayor and Council with special South Carolina Red Cross commemorative lapel pins.

“Because South Carolina is a disaster-prone state, we do not raise as much money as we spend,” said  Rigby Wilson, general manager WFXB Fox TV, member Red Cross Board of Directors and chair of the Government Relations Committee.  “When large disasters occur, such as the wildfires in Horry County, the money that has been donated by the local community is used to meet those needs, as well as the day-to-day single-family fires and multi-family apartment fires, and the other Red Cross programs.”

He pointed out that their Red Cross region, the Columbia Region provided services to 1,006 local members of the armed forces and their families in April and May 2012 alone, as well as ongoing blood services and health and safety initiatives, such as lifeguard training and life-saving CPR classes and that $.91 out of every donor dollar goes directly toward Red Cross services.

“Disasters start and end locally,” Wilson said. “Your donation goes directly, therefore, to the local chapter where much of the frontline work of preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies is accomplished by mobilizing the power of volunteers and through the generosity of donors such as you.”

Thank you to the City of North Myrtle Beach for your support!   The partnership between North Myrtle Beach and the Red Cross is priceless.  Whether it’s a hurricane or a heart attack, a call for blood or a call for help, your Red Cross is there.

The Coastal South Carolina American Red Cross Chapter serves Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties and is part of the Columbia Region.
