Laura McFayden was born to perform. She literally sang before she talked! But, before her musical career began, a decision to major in physical education led to a career as a professional water skier at Disney World, Sea World and Cypress Gardens and to touring the world.
Now she is Ms. Senior America South Carolina 2012, crowned June 2, at the combined NC SC Pageants in Pinehurst, NC.
Her 2012 platform organization is the American Red Cross. Laura’s first appearance after receiving the state title was to perform June 5 for the Coastal South Carolina’s Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner at Horry-Georgetown Technical College Conference Center.
She also toured United States’ theatrical venues as a professional ice skater. Through skating, she connected back to her love of music and was the first ice skater in the history of the sport to perform a live singing act on ice. She and her husband direct and perform in the area’s top swing band, The Wilmington Big Band, and their jazz band, Stardust.
In Myrtle Beach, Laura performed in the cast of Dino’s TV Variety Show, where she delighted audiences, and recently awed Senior America judges, with her tribute to the legendary Judy Garland. She also plays the role of “Missy” as one of the stars in The Marvelous Wonderettes which is an award-winning, off-Broadway musical starting again in the fall.
Red Cross Hero Cindra Marshall is the executive producer of these shows; and State Director of Senior America SC. We teamed up and brought Laura’s 2012 Red Cross platform dedication full circle. Laura is available to perform for Red Cross events.
We are thrilled that Laura has chosen the Red Cross as her 2012 platform and look forward to partnering with her to fulfill our mission!
