On Saturday, June 2, four volunteer fire departments joined forces to host the Fairfield County Boot Drive benefiting our Disaster Relief Program. In a four-hour period members of the Community, Lebanon, Ridgeway and Southeastern Fire Stations, with a total of 29 volunteer firefighters participating, raised a total of $2,706.36!
Eddie Watford, Lead Red Cross volunteer in Fairfield County, was responsible for organizing the event and he made it a family affair! His daughter and son-in-law, Sallie and Brad Williams, worked alongside Watford during the boot drive.
The youngest participant was ten-year old, Jordan Ramsey. Jordan’s father, Barkley, is the Fairfield County Fire Chief, as well as the Fairfield County Coroner. Barkley is obviously raising his son to be a first responder and hopefully a future Red Cross volunteer!
The senior participant was Roy Hudson, a 91 year-old wheelchair bound volunteer. Mr. Hudson has been a volunteer firefighter for about 65 years.
