Red Cross Calls for Health Services Volunteers

Licensed Heath Services Volunteers are needed to provide support in the aftermath of recent storms

Columbia, South Carolina, May 13, 2011 The American Red Cross is calling for licensed health services volunteers to register for “Just in Time” training to help in the aftermath of recent tornados and floods, as well as anticipated flooding in theMidwest. 

The Red Cross, in coordination with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health is hosting “Just in Time” training sessions for selected health services volunteers.  The trainings will be held on Thursday May 19th from 9 am – 12:00 p.m. in several locations in South Carolina. 

Volunteers are asked to deploy for at least two weeks after training is complete.  If unable to deploy at this time, volunteers will be placed on a list for response during hurricane season.  In order to deploy, volunteers will need the following:

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Be willing and able to live and work in adverse conditions
  • Be in excellent physical and mental health

Since March 31, more than 8,000 workers from all 50 states have assisted with recovery efforts in 16 affected states on 20 separate relief operations.   

Those who want to help the people affected by these disasters, as well as countless crises at home and around the world, can make a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Their gift will enable the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other disaster assistance.
